A big business decision, talked through with someone with no stake in it

Background

L was a woman in her mid-40s. She had started building her business this year and had a solid, steady base with room to grow.

An opportunity had come up to expand with another business. She knew everyone in her circle would have an opinion, and she wanted to think it through with someone who had no stake in what she decided.

Observations from the call

We talked through not only the opportunity and the commercial side of things, but also her reasons for pursuing it and her wider business goals.

We landed on three clear negotiating options that worked for her and that she felt comfortable with. The fourth was to walk away if the first three didn't work out.

What changed

She left grateful, because she felt heard and understood, and had three options that genuinely worked for her.

There'd be negotiations to come, as there always are in business. But she was clear on what she was doing, why, and what actually worked for her. That was the most important thing for her.

Oh thank you. I just wanted to talk it through with someone who understood, was not involved and could talk through all of the options available with me.
