Made redundant in her 50s, and afraid of the rubbish heap
Background
K is a senior exec in her mid-50s. She was made redundant and had no idea what she wanted to do.
Observations from the call
We started the call by talking about what she had been up to and what she would like to do. She loved the freedom she had from not having to be online at a certain time, but still felt she needed to be sitting at her desk 9 to 5.
We also discussed the exhausting and difficult process of networking and having to put yourself out there. She also mentioned trying to find work and starting over at her age. She was afraid.
This is a woman who'd been a highly respected and experienced leader, looked up to by thousands over the course of her career, which I reminded her of.
We talked through the various options available to her.
I also mentioned her messaging on social media was too vanilla. She needed to stop being afraid of what people would think, and say and have a feckin opinion. She was an experienced leader, not someone starting out on their career.
What changed
Her messaging's sharper now. She still hates networking, and I can't fault her for that. She's talking to several companies, and feels like she's not headed for the rubbish heap just yet.
Thank you. That was really helpful. I'm also slightly embarrassed about the smoke blown up my arse, but I appreciate it.
