The successful freelancer who couldn't press launch
Background
C was a woman in her mid-30s, a very successful freelancer with no shortage of work.
She had a business idea she was working on, but it sat there unlaunched. There were always a million things in the way before it was ready.
Observations from the call
Here's the thing: she was never short of freelance work because of her strong name in the industry. She was constantly hired, sought out and trusted. The second it was her own business, her own idea, with her name on it in a different way, the confidence disappeared.
It wasn't really procrastination. She didn't trust she was good enough. It felt too big, beyond the identity she'd already proven.
So this session was more of a metaphorical slap across the face: press the feckin button. Vision without action is merely a dream, eh?
What changed
She launched it, and was running a free trial for users. She landed some huge names on the platform, likely because of her name.
She was reluctant to remove the free trial because she was scared to find out if people would actually pay for it. I said the free trial was fine for a month or two, but after that they needed to pay, or she would never actually know if the business worked.
After a while she messaged me: they were pulling the free trial and putting the price up. The business has kept growing since.
This one wasn't really about figuring anything out. It was about helping her see what she couldn't see herself: that she feared she wasn't enough.
You'll be dead proud – we're pulling the free trial. Oh, and increasing the pricing...
